As you can see from the chart above, the kings came and went and were mostly "bad" kings, especially in Israel. This chart helps see an overview which takes us through
1 Kings and 2 Kings.
CH 13: Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, began to rule over Israel in the 23rd year of King Joash's reign in Judah. He reigned 17 years but did evil in the sight of the Lord and the Lord allowed King Hazael of Aram to defeat them repeatedly.
Jehoash, son of Jehoahaz, began to rule over Israel in the 37th year of King Joash's reign in Judah and he reigned 16 years but also did evil in the sight of the Lord.
Now when Elisha the man of God was in his last days with a severe illness, King Jehoash visited him and cried over him "My father my father I see chariots and charioteers of Israel!" vs14. Elisha had him get a bow and arrow and take the arrows to strike them on the ground, but the king struck them only 3 times which angered Elisha. So Elisha told him: You should have struck the ground several more times because now only 3 victories will be your's over the people of Aram. (Elisha saw that the king did not understand the arrows meant victory, and the king should have at this point) Elisha died after this last prophecy for the king. And the Aram people repeatedly defeated the king after his first 3 victories, and he then died leaving his son to rule.
Jehoash's son, Jeroboam II, then began to reign Israel, and he also did evil.
CH 14: Amaziah, son of Joash began to rule over Judah in the 2nd year of the reign of King Jehoash of Israel. He reigned 29 years and though God was pleased with him, he still did not take down the pagan shrines and the people still worshipped other gods there.
Israel and Judah went to war at this point because King Amaziah thought he could defeat Jehoash. Instead, King Jehoash of Judah's army scattered Israel's army and then Judah tore down about 600 feet of Jerusalem's wall and carried off much gold and silver and all the articles of the Temple of the Lord. About 15 years after this event, assassins plotted and killed King Amaziah, and the people crowned his son Uzziah (age 16) as their new king.
King Jeroboam II began to rule Israel in the 15th year of King Amaziah's rule of Judah, and he reigned 41 years, but did evil in the sight of the Lord. But as was promised through the prophet Jonah, King Jeroboam did recover all the lands previously lost between Lebo-hamath and the Dead Sea.
King Zechariah, Jeroboam's son, became the next king of Israel after his father's death.
