Ch 15: Absalom gathers support in Israel to the point that he's able to go after his father, king David. But instead of fighting back, David see's how the hearts of his subjects want Absalom for king, and he packs it up and runs! He chooses to run instead of fight his own son as well. David does have loyal subjects and his best warriors who go with him.
Ch 16: Absalom enters Jerusalem and moves into his father's castle. He gets advice from his trusted advisor to establish authority and humiliate his father, to pitch a tent on the roof and sleep with all David's concubines, which he does do.
Ch 17: David still has a friend in the castle, Hushai, and he warns David of an ambush about to happen. David and his followers get away. But Absalom himself is camped out not too far away, waiting for another chance to kill his father.
