CH 15: Uzziah son of Amaziah ruled Judah in the 27th year of the reign of King Jeroboam II of Israel. The Lord was happy with Uzziah, but he didn't tear down the pagan shrines and the people still offered sacrifices there, so the Lord allowed the king to get leprosy and he had it till he died. Jotham, Uzziah's son, took over the royal palace, since the king was in isolation due to his leprosy, and he governed the people of the land.
Zechariah, son of Jeroboam II began to rule over Israel in the 38th year of King Uzziah's reign in Judah. He only reigned 6 months and was assassinated by Shallum, son of Jabesh- who became the next king of Israel. (These were the last years of the Northern Kingdom.) Shallum only reigned 1 month before he was assassinated by Menahem son of Gadi, who became the next king of Israel. Both those kings did evil in the sight of the Lord. Menahem was very wicked. He destroyed the entire town and population of Tappuah because they wouldn't surrender. But he reigned 10 years and his son Pekahiah became the next king when he died.
Pekahiah ruled in the 50th year of King Uzziah's reign in Judah. But he only ruled Israel for 2 years and also did evil in the sight of the Lord. He was assassinated by the commander of his own army (Pekah) who made himself king of Israel. Pekah reigned 20 years and did evil in the sight of the Lord. During his reign King Tiglath-pileser of Assyria attacked Israel (again) and captured many towns including Gilead, Galilee, and Naphtali, and took the people of Assyria as captives. Then Hoshea son of Elah assassinated King Pekah and became king of Israel in the 20th year of King Jotham's (son of Uzziah) rule in Judah.
So, King Jotham began to rule Judah in the 2nd year of King Hoshea's reign of Israel. Jotham did what was pleasing to the Lord and he reigned 16 years, but he didn't take down the pagan shrines, and the people still sacrificed offerings there. The Lord allowed King Rezin of Aram and King Pekah of Israel to attack Judah during Jotham's reign.
When King Jotham died his son Ahaz became king of Judah.
