CH 3: One day while Moses was tending his father in law's (Jethro's) flock near the mountain of God, called Sinai (aka Horeb), an angel of the Lord appeared to him from the middle of a blazing bush on fire! Moses just stared in amazement! The bush was on fire, but wasn't actually burning up. As Moses went to take a closer look, the Lord called him: Moses! And Moses responded: Here I am! "Don't come any closer. Take off your sandals for you are standing on holy ground. I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob." vs5 When Moses heard this he covered his face because fear had gripped him and he was afraid to look up at God.
God continued to speak to him and told him he had heard the cry of his people and had chosen to use Moses as His instrument to free the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. God told Moses that he was to lead the people to a land God had chosen for them as their new home, a beautiful land flowing with milk and honey, and that this was His promise to them, this land would be their's! He told Moses to go to Pharaoh and tell him that he must let the Israelites go- but Moses protested. Even after God reassured Moses that He would be with him every step of the way, Moses still protested that even the Israelites wouldn't believe him.
At this point God told him to tell the Israelites: I am who I am. Tell the Israelites I am has sent me. And Yahweh, is His eternal name for all generations to remember. vs14-15
Moses still protested. God gives him miraculous signs to perform, that He will have the power to convince the people and Pharaoh...and Moses still is scared and protests. So though God got angry with Moses, enough to want to kill him for not trusting in Him, he allowed Moses to bring Aaron his brother to speak for him to Pharaoh. After this Moses finally stopped protesting and went and got Aaron and explained it all to him and what they were to do, including show Pharaoh the miraculous signs that God had shown him that now Moses could do.
