CH 5: After speaking to Israel's leaders, Moses and Aaron went to speak to Pharaoh: The Lord says to let my people go to worship me in the wilderness. Of course Pharaoh scoffs at this suggestion and retorts: And who is the Lord? But Moses and Aaron insist, which gets Pharaoh angry- and he in turn increases the work load of the Israelites to an impossible amount of work. The Israelites get angry at Moses and Aaron, but they are able to calm them to an extent with the promise of rescue by the Lord, reminding the people that the Lord has claimed them as His own, and that they will indeed be rescued, and redeemed!
CH 6: The ancestors of some of the clans of Israel. (They were great at keeping records of their descendants! Really of keeping records in general, they did this exceptionally well.)
CH7: The plagues begin because Pharaoh's heart became more and more stubborn each time Moses and Aaron came to see him. Pharaoh began to demand miraculous signs as proof of the Lord. At this time, Moses was 80 and Aaron 83 years old.
The First Sign: Moses and Aaron threw down the staff given to Moses by the Lord. When it hit the ground it turned into a huge snake! But Pharaoh wasn't impressed and demanded his wise men to duplicate this. When they did by trickery and slight of hand (it was a magic trick by today's standards- back then it was seen as real magic), Moses' staff/snake ate theirs'! But Pharaoh's heart remained hard.
The Second Sign: When that didn't work to have Pharaoh release the Israelites, the Lord had Aaron and Moses meet Pharaoh at the Nile River. Aaron raised the staff over the Nile and turned it into blood. In fact all rivers, lakes, ponds, any bowl of water, all turned into blood- and all the fish died. There was no drinking water available to the Egyptians in the entire land. But again the magicians showed Pharaoh a trick of turning water into blood, and Pharaoh's heart hardened more. This lasted for 7 days! But the Egyptians were able to dig into the ground of fresh water atleast.
More miracles to come... Stay Tuned!
