Meanwhile, God told Isaac to remain in this land for it is the land promised to his father Abraham for his faithfulness. King Abimelech and Isaac enter into an agreement to live peaceably, though Isaac moved to the Gerar Valley to avoid trouble with the king's men over well water rights.
Esau, meanwhile, married two Hittite wives which made life miserable for Isaac and Rebekah.
GEN 27: Isaac is very old, blind, and bedridden now. He calls in Esau to give him the special oldest son blessing. Isaac tells him to go hunt game, cook it up, serve it to him, and then he will bless him. Rebekah overhears all this and as soon as Esau leaves to hunt the wild game, she gets Jacob and tells him her plan to trick her husband into giving Jacob the oldest son blessing. Jacob goes along with it. He gets a coat made of animal fur while Rebekah cooks up some game. Jacob brings it into Isaac pretending to be Esau. Though Isaac questions him and asks about his voice, even touches his arms to feel Esau's hairy arms, he is tricked into giving Jacob the oldest son's blessing.
Esau returns from his hunt and cooks it up and serves it to his father. When Isaac finds out what has really occurred, he begins to tremble and shake, but the blessing must stand. He can only bless Esau into serving his younger brother now. Esau is beyond rage and Rebekah finds out he's plotting to kill Jacob as soon as his father dies. So, afraid for Jacob's life, she tells Isaac she does not want Jacob to marry a Hittite woman, and so Issac sends Jacob off to Paddan-Aram, where Rebekah's brother, Leban, lives, to find a wife among cousins.
