Solomon's power (timeline 971-931 BC) was the pinnacle of Israel's glory. King Solomon became richer and wiser than any other king on earth. But Solomon's reign also illustrates the dangers of spiritual infidelity, and 1 Kings warns about the results of preoccupation with luxury, fame, self, and security. It's a timeless warning to us all.
1 Kings Chapter 1:
King David was now very old, and one of David's son's, Adonijah, decided he was going to steal the throne out from under the already chosen next king, Solomon (his half brother). Bathsheba (Solomon's mother) hears of this and goes directly to King David about it. So David calls on the prophet Nathan to publically bless Solomon and make the necessary sacrifices to affirm Solomon as king that very day. And blowing the ram's horn at the end of the ceremony so all the people were made known of this fact, they then did a huge celebration party, and the people of Jerusalem rejoiced and celebrated of Solomon's appointment as king over them.
Solomon's first act was to get ahold of Adonijah and see if he would submit to himself; Adonijah did as soon as he saw Soloman, so Soloman showed mercy and dismissed him, telling him to "go home" vs53.
